This link will take you to the FTDNA website
home page. On the right side of the page down a ways
from the search blocks, is the title"
Tutorial". We have spent a lot of time attempting
to explain much of this information but can't come close to
what FTDNA has provided. You'll find explanations
of the testing process, test kit contents and
instructions, charts and a host of other
information. Please use this resource. It's
outstanding!
Nonetheless, if
you want to be part of the Brown project, be sure to
order your kit from the Brown DNA Study, rather than directly from FTDNA, in order receive a discount from FTDNA's list prices.
Please note also that the Brown DNA Study
has a handful of members whose DNA tests have been performed
by other firms. At least some of these firms have first-rate
reputations for scientific integrity and customer service.
Nonetheless, we strongly urge prospective Brown-surnamed
participants to test via FTDNA, not only to have a set of
DNA markers with maximum comparability to other Browns, but
also to have comparability with FTDNA's huge customer base
of more than 150,000 tested men who carry "non-Brown"
surnames.
