My Brown family-tree line..Without a shadow of a doubt John D. Brown born Oct 11,1785 supposedly born in Old Chester, New Hampshire then married Elizabeth Grindle Of Sedgewick, Maine at Penobscott, Maine around 1807 and moved to lot#87 on Somes Sound, Mount Desert Island,Maine..his father purportedly also John Brown was smuggled into MDI from Nova Scotia under a load of cod-fish (incognito) after the Revolution as he had "loyalist leanings" which led to his brief hiatus in Canada..ie Tories were not welcome in certain circles..however he was connected to the early power-brokers/original settlers on MDI..The Somes,Richardsons,Higgins,Wasgaats, and Thompson's..the Brown's were divided some fought for Geo Washington and some remained neutral like old John Brown..however where he went in NS, where he came up from in Mass/lower Maine below the Penobscott  is a very hidden/guarded secret..as is where my grt grt grt granfather John D.Brown supposedly born in 1785 in N.H. Two major clues..if we can shine a light on the darkness just before and after the Revolution I will be a happy camper as I've been beating my head against the wall with this for the last 3o yrs since my Dad Albert Lewis Brown died in 1981.First clue is John Brown's 117 acres in the shadow of "Brown's Mountain" by Norteast Harbor is pseudo family manifest destiny it was part of one of the early land grants..it's almost impossible to establish solid land grant/deed connection from the old records...if we could than 1st clue supposedly from the Peabody Museum, in BOSTON/Salem/Danvers Hx of Salem is that I'm related to a John Brown,Ruling Elder,Salem,Mass 1660..just need the definitive connection..2nd Clue..A few of the early Brown's went back to Scotland some forever? some returned. My dad swore the Scottish gillie from Craitie/Balmoral was a grt grt Uncle..gameskeeper to Prince Albert and Queen Victoria..apparently Johns mother/grandmother was a Janet Shaw who's father fought with the Brits/Highlander Regiment during the war of independence..the story is a hand-me-down solid family legend..my gut feeling is John Brown of "gillie fame"..'s father b.1789 returned to Maine..hence the grt grt uncle connection..There is a rather suspicious census entry for Bath,Maine around 1850 for a John Brown b.1789-90 from Scotland living with a bunch of "Shaw's"..otherwise my leads are dead/dried-up..The Brit's are of no help..especially their sensitivities per a possible Victoria-John Brown scandal..HORRORS! I mean any empire capable of stealing and abusing the Scots "Stone of Scone" for centuries..treating the Irish like red-headed step children, looking down on the Welsh with pompous condescending sneers, addicting the Chinese to Opium..well it's totally understandable that the very idea Victoria was impregnated by Brown and the child/a daughter brought up in utmost secrecy in Paris..do you really think they'd help a poor american mongrel like me with an Aussie mom..find the truth? Anyway if any of this insanity rings a bell with anyone.anywhere..I'd appreciate any clues I can get...thanks again mates..Austin
