Our GG grandfather was David Brown wh0 was born in the far western part of North Carolina in abt 1795.  He was married to Rhoda Chastain who was born abt 1807 in probably the Pendleton District of SC. The only source we have for their birth data is the 1850 census for Cherokee County, GA.  It is possible that David was born in the Over-Mountain area of NC which is now TN.  We doubt that Rhoda was born there and believe that Pendleton was the more likely place.

David and Rhoda sold their land in Haywood County, NC, in 1833, and removed to Union County, GA. I have copies of their two deeds for when they purchased the land and when they sold it.

We have studied the Chastain family for a long time and have come to the conclusion that our Rhoda may be the daughter of Edward Brigand Chastain who was the son of the Rev. John "Ten Shilling Bell" Chastain.  Edward Brigand grew up in the Over-Mountain area of NC - now TN.  He met and married his wife, Hannah Brown, there, when he was 18 years of age (1787).  .  .  .  No one seems to know anything about her.  A family Bible and other family records tend to support our belief but there is no solid proof at this point.

We do know that we are related to the Brown line which was, and still is, in central GA (with a couple of them who have "scattered").  This line includes William Brown (1784, VA), his son, Bowling P. Brown, and many of Bowling's male descendants who form the prominent Brown family potters of GA.  Several books have been written about them and at three that I know of are still in business today.  Google Brown potters.

My Browns were in Haywood County, NC, Union, Cherokee, and Murray Counties of GA, and finally settled in Craighead and Mississippi Counties of AR.
